He gathers the lambs in His arms.
Pregnancy is one of the most amazing journeys that a woman will ever experience. Your body, mind, and spirit go through forty weeks of change. Each day is different and you never know what the next will hold. Your body is growing a baby! What?! It’s crazy when you stop to think about it. A HUMAN IS GROWING INSIDE OF YOU!
I know that when I was pregnant with my first child that thought blew me away and kinda freaked me out at the same time. It started to change the way I saw people…I was reminded that all have a mother who carried and birthed them, and who loved them. Even my friends who have adopted babies know that their child was carried and chosen to have life by a loving birth mother.
A friend of mine told me her daughter said after becoming pregnant for the first time, “Mom I don't know anything about being pregnant.” I felt the same way. The truth is no one does. If you have never experienced it before how can you? You can’t.
He enters into it with us.
The good news is we have a Heavenly Father who knows everything. He knows our hearts desires and our greatest fears. He knows our needs and our wants. He is the one knitting this little bundle together in your womb. The Holy Spirit is creating life inside of you at this very moment with the utmost detail and tender care.
One of the most humbling thoughts about being a mom is realizing that you have been given the greatest responsibility in raising a child and at the same time you have no idea what you are doing! Sure you can read books, seek counsel from people who have gone before and learn as you go, all of which are good and necessary in motherhood. But I have something even better to share with you…something that has blessed me over and over again as I have been pregnant and entered the journey of motherhood.
God doesn’t just know everything about us; He enters into it with us and participates in our journey. Isaiah 40:11 says, “He will tend his flock like a shepherd he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.” Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He nourishes His flock, He will gather you and your little ones in His arms and hold you all close to His heart and He will gently lead you as you lead your young.
God knows you have never done this before and He is not looking down at you with His arms crossed rolling His eyes at you for being inexperienced and new to all of this. He. Is. With. You. He deeply loves you. Surrender and let Him lead you. After all, He laid down His life for you!
