I am Loved

God so loved the WORLD.

John 3:16 is one of, if not THE most famous scriptures in the entire bible. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life.” Most of us have heard it at some point in our lives. If you grew up in the church then it’s probably one of those verses that has become like white noise…and has lost its intensity. “Yeah, yeah, Jesus loves me. I know. If I believe in Him I go to heaven. Got it.” And we move on. We keep hustling, working, spending, performing, trying, and doing because that is how the world determines who gets love.

On a good day, I wake up and the first thing on my mind is “I rest in God’s love”…but most days it isn’t. I am human. I forget that I rest in the arms of an all-powerful loving God. I forget the truth that Jesus stripped Himself of His glory, came near, hung on a cross, and did for me what I could never do for myself. I forget I don’t have to earn His love and all that He asks of me is that I believe and receive. That is a crazy thought.

But here’s an even crazier one. His love isn’t just for me. Are you ready for more crazy? He is NOT a God who just loves Christians! This verse clearly states the radical nature of God’s love. The verse says, “He so loved the WORLD”. That means that He loves everyone who exists and has ever existed. And He gave His Son, Jesus Christ, BECAUSE He loved us…without any thought or expectation of receiving love in return.

He loves simply, purely, and profoundly.

This is the profound love God has for humanity…He loved us when we were still lost in sin without the ability to love Him back. This pure, God-kind of love has no strings attached. It isn’t looking for what it can get, but for what it can GIVE. This is the love that drove God the Father to self-sacrifice and the love that drove Jesus to lay down His life for us. For those of us who choose to receive His gift of grace by believing in Him, He calls us His children and we have eternal life with Him. He truly is different than anyone who has ever existed. And so is His love.

So dear one, as you wait for your baby to come into this world, take heart that God loves you and your little one simply, purely, and profoundly. Jesus came to this broken world to make a way for everyone to be with Him and He is still here dwelling in the hearts of those who choose to believe. His love never fails!

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life.
